true necessity.
tns (the necessary stage) came down to college today to present us with
happy family. strong themes & adept style at which the main ideas of love & union were portrayed, and most importantly the ageless notion of perseverance. i feel the performance couldn't come at a better time, when most of us need encouragement through our struggles to balance our mounting educational commitments and that with others.
the cast did well with the few props they had, and energy was pretty good. the funny thing i noticed was their voices sounded a little flat, i wonder why. timothy nga didn't seem too focussed upon his acting, probably due to the stress and fatigue from doing a run of
private parts the night before. i thought the actress who was cast as the mother was really quite good, and it didn't hurt she looked like a younger & plumper version of neo swee lin (not in her stint in
phua chu kang, mind you.)
the play is a timely reminder of how we should never forget to embrace that which we came from: our family. it is known to be a circle of love and warmth, in which kind words abide and harshness has no place. in our attempts to fit in with the vast world outside, we have perhaps neglected the very unit which comforts the heart and soothes the soul. let's not be too stubborn; love is the very thing which can carry us forward. hatred and unforgiveness will only fester and bind you fast to your unhappy past. a commendable play with its primal yet enduring issues.
one of the questions for today's gp test was, "Happiness is a state of mind. Do you agree?"
yes i do. it doesn't matter how i do for the test, but i truly do believe happiness is a state of mind. it's whether we choose to
see it. because people don't, they are lost in a spiral of regret & self-pity.
let those who are willing embrace the eternal values of love and forgiveness.
because that's what makes a happy family, a happy person, a happy friendship, a happy community, and a happy world.
a very happy world to live in indeed.
